Takashi Homma (b. 1962) is a Japanese photographer whose work examines the surfaces and systems of contemporary urban and suburban life, particularly in Japan. His practice is characterised by a deliberately detached, documentary distance — images that observe rather than interpret, allowing structure, repetition and the logic of built environments to become visible. His 1998 book Tokyo Suburbia established him as a central figure in the reassessment of postwar Japanese urban development, presenting the sprawling residential peripheries of Tokyo as subjects of sustained attention rather than photographic afterthought. He has exhibited internationally and contributed to major surveys of Japanese photography, with work held in significant institutional collections.
