Exhibition guide published by The Saatchi Gallery, London, for the presentation 10 September–22 November 1998. Staple-bound, offset-printed booklet on lightweight cream stock; 18 pages; 22 × 30 cm.
Artists: Michael Ashkin, John Currin, Tom Friedman, Martin Kersels, Clay Ketter, Robin Lowe, Josiah McElheny, Sarah Morris, Laura Owens, Elizabeth Peyton, Monique Prieto, Brian Tolle, Sue Williams and Lisa Yuskavage.
Condition: good vintage condition; general age toning, handling marks and surface rubbing, with faint creasing, small indentations and light edge and corner wear. No major tears visible.
This is the smaller exhibition guide issued for Part Two, rather than the separate 149-page catalogue published for the wider Young Americans 2 project. The larger publication brought together an expanded selection of recent American work; this booklet records the specific September–November presentation at the Saatchi Gallery’s Boundary Road space.
The cover operates almost entirely as a list. Several names that were still being grouped under the provisional category of ‘young American’ now occupy distinct and established positions: Currin and Peyton in figurative painting, Friedman in conceptual sculpture, Owens and Yuskavage in the renewed field of painting, and Morris across painting, film and architecture. The document retains the earlier moment before those positions separated into individual histories.
Exhibition support becomes historical index. Fourteen artists, one institutional heading, one temporary arrangement.
Securely packed; tracked UK and international shipping available.
