Poster published on the occasion of Wade Guyton’s exhibition Natural Wine at Galerie Chantal Crousel, Paris, 23 February – 6 April 2019. Listed by the gallery as an accompanying publication/edition for the exhibition. The exhibition brought together new paintings made through Guyton’s familiar system of digital image, file, printer, studio surface and accident — including images of paintings drying on the floor, works tacked to the wall, remains of lunch, a January view from the artist’s studio, internet images, and enlarged bitmaps.

Here the poster itself becomes part of that chain. A studio/city image is flattened into exhibition publicity; the title Natural Wine sits above it like a caption, slogan, social marker and deadpan joke. The red typography, Paris venue line, and large A1 format make the sheet feel closer to a public notice than a conventional artist poster.

Guyton’s practice has long treated the printer as a painting tool: files, scanners, digital editing, inkjet output, misregistration, streaks and surface errors become part of the work rather than interruptions to it. This poster records that logic in secondary form: exhibition image, printed support, gallery distribution, and object of circulation.
