French/English catalogue published for the Avignon presentation of Roni Horn aka Roni Horn, the 2009–10 retrospective that opened at Tate Modern, travelled to Collection Lambert (21 June–4 October 2009), then to the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston.

The exhibition brought together more than 120 works. Across the venues it drew on the recurring concerns of Horn's practice — Iceland, Emily Dickinson, the pairing with Felix Gonzalez-Torres, doubling, repetition, and the instability of identity.

The cover reproduces an image from Horn's Portrait of an Image (with Isabelle Huppert), 2005: a hundred photographs made by asking Huppert to re-perform, from memory alone and without scripts, characters from her own earlier films. Horn has described the project as "anti-iconic" — a portrait built from repetition rather than likeness, refusing the idea that a single image could settle who its subject is. The title RONI HORN is printed directly across the reproduced face, with the image extending across front and rear boards — making the ambiguity of the work literal on the catalogue's own binding, before it is opened.

This is the Collection Lambert / Éditions Phébus edition, distinct from the two-volume Steidl publication (Roni Horn aka Roni Horn, catalogue + subject index, essay by Briony Fer) produced for the Tate/Whitney/ICA leg of the retrospective.

Condition: Good, retained in shrink-wrap. The plastic wrap shows visible rubbing, scratching and creasing from storage and handling; boards beneath appear substantially protected. Wrap retained as found.
