Published for Prince's retrospective at the Kestner-Gesellschaft, 3 June–24 July 1994. The catalogue contains 57 plates alongside essays, an interview, exhibition history, bibliography and checklist.
The publication surveys the period in which Prince established photography through the reuse of existing photographs. Magazine advertisements, publicity images and other commercial pictures were isolated, enlarged and returned as Cowboys, Girlfriends, fashion images, parties and anonymous figures. Familiar images remain visible, but their original captions, products and purposes have been removed.
Issued relatively early in Prince's institutional history, the book gathers sixteen years of displaced imagery and stabilises it as a photographic body of work. Images taken from printed circulation are photographed again, exhibited, catalogued and reproduced once more. The catalogue does not simply document appropriation; it becomes another stage within it.
Securely packed; tracked UK and international shipping available.
