Notes

Original exhibition invitation issued for Per Kirkeby’s Peintures et Sculptures at Galerie Laage-Salomon, Paris, 12 January – 10 February 1990. Vernissage: Friday 12 January, 17h–20h30.

By 1990 Kirkeby had become one of Europe’s leading painters, bringing together abstraction, landscape, and geological structure in a body of work that defined much of late twentieth-century Scandinavian painting. Galerie Laage-Salomon was among Paris’s foremost contemporary galleries during the period, with a programme that included Georg Baselitz, Jasper Johns, John Chamberlain, and Annette Messager, helping introduce major European and American artists to the Parisian market.

Unlike unused invitations, this copy records its own circulation. Posted in late December 1989, it retains its original typed address label and Paris postal cancellation — traces that preserve the route by which the exhibition announcement entered the world beyond the gallery. What was designed as temporary promotional material now survives as a concise document of a specific exhibition, a gallery programme, and the everyday infrastructure through which contemporary art was distributed.

Original invitations from Galerie Laage-Salomon appear far less frequently than catalogues or posters. While the gallery maintained extensive archives, much of its printed ephemera remains dispersed in private collections or institutional holdings, making individually mailed examples increasingly difficult to locate today.

Shipping and handling included in the listed price.
