Condition: good vintage condition; general rubbing, surface marking and light scratching to the laminated wrappers, with wear and minor softening at the edges and corners. Internally clean and firmly bound.

Produced for Rinke’s exhibition Der Versuch, meine Arbeiten zu erklären at Kunsthalle Tübingen, 11 November–10 December 1972. The publication follows the artist through a vocabulary of standing, measuring, waiting, touching, carrying and containing. The body appears not as portrait or expressive subject, but as a practical instrument through which time, distance, gravity and spatial relationships can be tested.

By the beginning of the 1970s, Rinke had moved away from painting and conventional sculpture toward actions recorded through photography. Time became an additional sculptural dimension, while repeated bodily gestures supplied a direct and legible system of measurement. This approach placed him within the emerging fields of Conceptual Art, performance and process-based practice while retaining a distinctly physical relationship to matter.

The publication exceeds the supporting role of an exhibition catalogue. Photographic sequences, repeated poses, water containers, clocks and empty architectural spaces are organised into a sustained visual structure. Action becomes image; duration becomes sequence; the temporary encounter between body and space returns as a portable printed object.

Its bright green cover, frontal portrait and bilingual block typography give the book an unusually immediate identity. The reverse repeats the portrait from behind, turning the covers into two opposing views of the same body and establishing the book itself as another spatial interval.
