First published by the small Toronto press Rumour Publications in 1978, Kathy Goes to Haiti belongs to Acker’s early period of self-consciously repetitive, anti-narrative fiction. Its deliberately simplified sexual encounters use the travel story to examine fantasy, race, gender and the unequal relationship between an American visitor and Haiti. This 1990 London edition returned it to circulation as an individual paperback after its inclusion in Literal Madness and Young Lust.

Pandora’s design is especially useful beside its 1990 edition of In Memoriam to Identity. The blue collage covering this paperback appears to reuse a section of the same image system found across that book’s jacket. Two separate texts are given a shared visual surface: the author’s work organised into a recognisable publisher identity.
