Written during the late 1970s and first published in 1984, Blood and Guts in High School became Kathy Acker’s best-known work. The book dismantles conventional narrative through appropriated literature, dialogue, drawings, maps and deliberately unstable shifts in voice. This 1989 edition returned it to circulation through Grove’s Evergreen imprint, placing Acker’s experimental writing within the lineage of the publisher’s countercultural paperback programme.
Jo Bonney’s cover converts Acker’s author portrait into a divided surface. The apparently torn image is entirely reproduced: fracture presented as design, identity already split before the book is opened.
Securely packed; tracked UK and international shipping available.
