Published for Viel Spaß: Beaucoup de plaisir (“Have Fun”), presented at Espace Paul Ricard, Paris, from 25 May to 17 July 2001 on the proposal of Daniel Templon. The exhibition brought together six artists associated with a renewed German painting scene, with Andreas Slominski’s sculptural practice positioned as the deliberate exception.
The wrappers use fluorescent pink brush lettering against uncoated off-white stock. Names and exhibition information are reduced to a narrow typographic register, while the painted title expands across the front and back as an image in its own right.
The publication records an early convergence of artists who approached painting through advertising, digital imagery, mass media and deliberately unstable cultural references. Michel Majerus and Jonathan Meese are especially significant within this grouping, but the catalogue’s value lies in preserving the artists together at a specific moment of circulation between Berlin and Paris.
