Original exhibition catalogue issued for AlphaBête, held at Galerie Rodolphe Janssen, Brussels, from 6 September to 26 October 2013. The exhibition was Geers’s third solo presentation with the gallery and brought together new paintings, drawings and installations.
The front and rear wrappers form a continuous field of barbed wire, repeated until the security device begins to function as pattern. Inside, reproduced works combine barriers, mirrored forms, bodies and symmetrical structures in deep violet, turquoise and rust tones.
By 2013, Geers had established a visual language in which political violence, spiritual symbolism and decorative ornament repeatedly overlap. AlphaBête appeared during the same year as his major retrospective at Haus der Kunst, Munich.
