c.1982

Printed invitation for Pierre-Marc de Biasi’s Sphères Sphères exhibition at Galerie J. & J. Donguy — a small but important Paris space tied to experimental poetry, visual language, conceptual print culture, and artist publishing during the late 1970s and early 1980s. The gallery operated within a wider network connecting concrete poetry, mail art, artist books, Fluxus-adjacent practices, and post-minimal graphic experimentation circulating through France at the time.

The invitation functions less as straightforward promotional material and more as a compressed graphic proposition. The repeated spheres, numerical fragments, and monochrome photographic field place the card somewhere between exhibition support, conceptual score, and visual poem. Its typography and stripped layout carry the atmosphere of independent artist publishing from the period — closer to small-run experimental print culture than commercial gallery ephemera.

De Biasi later became widely known as a literary scholar and specialist on Flaubert manuscripts, giving the object an additional retrospective layer: a document from a moment where writing, systems, image structures, and conceptual art still overlapped fluidly in the Parisian avant-garde.

The stronger interest is likely to come from collectors of conceptual printed matter, concrete poetry ephemera, French artist-run spaces, and experimental publishing history — a field where Galerie Donguy material remains comparatively scarce outside institutional archives and specialist collections. Survival rates for these smaller gallery invitations are low, particularly examples retaining strong contrast and clean surfaces.

Condition: Very good vintage condition. Light handling wear, minor surface marks, soft corner wear consistent with age and circulation.
