Collection: Julia Ballerini

Julia Ballerini is an American art historian, curator and writer whose work has focused on the history and theory of photography. She is best known for curating and editing Sequence (con)Sequence: (sub)versions of photography in the 80s, published by Aperture Foundation in association with the Edith C. Blum Art Institute, Bard College in 1989 — an exhibition and catalogue that brought together nineteen artists working with sequential, appropriated and fragmented imagery to examine the breakdown of stable photographic narrative in postmodern visual culture. Her critical and scholarly writing has engaged with questions of representation, gender and the politics of the image.
