Jake Shears (born Jason Sellards, 1978) is an American musician and performer, co-founder and lead vocalist of the pop group Scissor Sisters, formed in New York in 2001. The group's self-titled debut album (2004) reached number one in the United Kingdom and their combination of glam rock, disco and queer sensibility placed them at the centre of a particular strand of 2000s popular culture that intersected with the independent publishing and fashion worlds documented in BUTT Magazine. Shears has subsequently pursued a solo recording career and written a memoir, Boys Keep Swinging (2018).
