Collection: Alex Israel
Alex Israel (born 1982, Los Angeles) is an American artist whose paintings, sculptures and films examine the aesthetics and iconography of Southern California — Hollywood, surfing, celebrity, studio culture and the performance of the self. Trained at Yale University, his practice consistently treats Los Angeles as both subject and medium, restaging the visual language of the entertainment industry to interrogate how identity, image and artifice are manufactured. He has presented solo exhibitions at Almine Rech, Paris and Brussels, Gagosian, and institutions including the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles, and has collaborated with filmmakers, musicians and fashion houses.
