Galerie C Contemporary Art. Gallery-issued artist card pairing a photograph from Massao Mascaro’s Jardin series with a blind-embossed quotation by Francis Ponge. Monochrome offset print on heavily textured card stock, 14.5 × 21 cm. Photographic image to recto; blind embossing and printed production credits to verso.
Condition: Very good. Light handling, faint surface marks and minor edge wear. The low-contrast embossed text remains clearly impressed into the paper.
Born in Lille in 1990 and based in Brussels, Mascaro studied photography at Le 75 before continuing at Blank Paper Escuela in Madrid. His work frequently begins with territory: Jardin locates the garden not as a bounded plot but as a recurring, almost mythical space encountered across Madrid’s streets and public parks. The project received the BOZAR Monography Series Award in 2016 and was presented at the Centre for Fine Arts, Brussels, the following year.
The card predates the 2019 photobook, published in an edition of 500 copies by Witty Books and L’éditeur du dimanche. It places the photograph beside Ponge’s language without turning either into explanation: image on one face, an almost invisible text physically pressed into the other.
Galerie C later presented Jardin #25 as a 150 × 100 cm gelatin silver print dated 2024, edition 1/3 plus two artist’s proofs. Here the same image remains in its earlier, portable form — photograph, literary citation and gallery identity carried on a single sheet of card.
