Condition: Very good. Light handling, faint surface marks, minor edge wear and a small mark toward the lower-right margin.

The first comprehensive Los Angeles exhibition devoted to Leibovitz’s early work brought together more than 4,000 photographs, extending the survey first presented by the LUMA Foundation in Arles in 2017. Arranged as an archive rather than a sequence of isolated masterpieces, the installation moved between Bay Area landscapes, political reportage, magazine assignments, personal photographs and portraits made during her thirteen years at Rolling Stone.

The invitation reproduces Golden Gate Bridge, 1977; San Francisco, 1968; Half Moon Bay, California, 1968; and Kibbutz Amir, Israel, 1969. Three images precede the chronology stated in the exhibition title, retaining the formative material through which the later archive was constructed.

The related artist book translated the exhibition’s thread-gridded installation into a hand-sewn, continuously unfolding printed form. This smaller announcement performs the same movement more briefly: four photographs compressed into a portable sequence, followed by the dates and address required to place them in public circulation.
