Thomas Ruff

Thomas Ruff (born 1958) is a German photographer associated with the Düsseldorf School, where he studied under Bernd and Hilla Becher at the Kunstakademie. His practice proceeds through sustained, conceptually distinct series — large-scale passport-like portraits, press photographs, architectural interiors, night-vision imagery, newspaper pictures and internet-sourced nudes — each interrogating photographic representation, information systems and the mediation of reality. He has exhibited extensively at Documenta and in major international museums, and is represented in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and Tate Modern, London.
