Collection: Stephen Prina
Stephen Prina (born 1954) is an American artist and musician whose practice moves between painting, film, sound, installation and performance, consistently working through and upon existing cultural objects — artworks, scores, catalogues, furniture and language — rather than originating new ones. Associated with the CalArts milieu of the 1980s and with a generation of artists engaged with institutional critique and conceptualism, his ongoing series Exquisite Corpse: The Complete Paintings of Manet, begun in 1988, remains a defining work of post-conceptual practice. He has exhibited at Documenta and at major institutions internationally, including MoMA, New York.
