Mark Rappaport (born 1942) is an American filmmaker and video essayist whose work dismantles Hollywood cinema through close, often irreverent analysis of performance, stardom and the closet. His feature films of the 1970s and 1980s combined melodrama and avant-garde structure; his subsequent video essays — beginning with Rock Hudson's Home Movies (1992) — established a distinct form of found-footage criticism that has been widely influential on both artists' moving image and film studies. His work has been distributed through the British Film Institute and screened internationally.
