Collection: Mâkhi Xenakis

Mâkhi Xenakis (born 1956) is a French artist, writer and daughter of the composer Iannis Xenakis, whose practice spans painting, sculpture and critical writing, and whose work is grounded in a sustained engagement with questions of the body, memory and archival recovery. Trained in architecture under Paul Virilio, she developed a practice concerned with physical and conceptual structures before turning decisively to figuration. Her long friendship with Louise Bourgeois, begun in New York in 1987 following a Villa Médicis residency, became the basis for Louise Bourgeois: L’aveugle guidant l’aveugle (Actes Sud / Galerie Lelong, 1998), published in English as The Blind Leading the Blind (2008), in which documentary research into Bourgeois’s childhood archive is placed in direct conversation with the artist’s work. She has exhibited widely in France and written extensively on artists including her father.
