Katharina Sieverding

Katharina Sieverding (b. 1944, Prague) is a German artist whose large-scale colour photographs, developed in close collaboration with Klaus Mettig from the early 1970s, examine the relationship between individual identity, political history, and mass-media image production. A student of Joseph Beuys at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, she became one of the central figures in the expansion of photography as a medium in West Germany during the 1970s. Her work was included in Documenta 6 (1977) and Documenta 7 (1982), and she has held a professorship at the Universität der Künste Berlin since 1992.
