Collection: Jan Dibbets

Jan Dibbets (born 1941) is a Dutch artist whose work from the late 1960s onwards explored perception, perspective and the relationship between photography and physical space. His Perspective Corrections series used chalk lines drawn on the ground and photographed to create the illusion of geometric forms that exist only in the image, questioning the camera’s claim to objective representation. Dibbets was closely associated with the international conceptual art network of the late 1960s and was included in key exhibitions including When Attitudes Become Form (1969). His later work extended into investigations of light, architecture and the history of art, including a long-term project documenting windows in European churches.
