Frank Bowling

Frank Bowling (b. 1934, Bartica, British Guiana) is one of the most significant painters of his generation — a central figure in the development of abstract painting in both Britain and the United States. Bowling studied at the Royal College of Art in London alongside David Hockney and R.B. Kitaj, and later became a pivotal presence in the New York art world of the 1960s and 70s, where he engaged directly with Color Field painting while developing a practice that was distinctly his own.

His work is held in major public collections including Tate, the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He was knighted in 2020.
