Condition: good vintage condition; age toning to covers and pages, light handling wear, minor edge and corner wear, soft creasing and visible staple wear at centre. Interior complete and readable, with plates presenting well.

Bowling’s return to Guyana in 1989 places the catalogue in a specific biographical and geographic circuit: British Guiana / London / New York / Guyana. De Caires, born in Georgetown in 1957, appears alongside Bowling in a shared exhibition that later resurfaced as a point of reference for their joint presentation in Wales in 2012.

The venue matters. The Umana Yana was built in Georgetown in 1972 and takes its name from a Wai Wai term for a meeting place. By 1989, it was not simply a neutral exhibition hall, but a national civic structure carrying Indigenous, postcolonial and diplomatic histories.

A small catalogue for a short exhibition, but also a record of movement: two Guyanese-born painters, British Council support, a Georgetown venue, and painting returned to local public space through printed form. The acknowledgements, sponsorship notes, artist photograph, colour plates and sparse design all keep the exhibition’s infrastructure visible.
