Collection: David Tremlett

David Tremlett (born 1945) is a British artist whose practice has moved between drawing, wall drawing, photography, film and printed matter since the late 1960s. His early work included extensive journeys through remote regions of Africa, Australia and the Americas, documented in photographs, postcards and artists’ books that recorded place, duration and the experience of travel without romanticising it. From the 1970s onwards he developed a sustained practice of wall drawings made directly onto the surfaces of buildings and institutions worldwide, using pastel in geometric forms that respond to the specific architecture and light of each site. Tremlett’s work sits at the intersection of conceptual art, land art and a quiet but persistent engagement with the relationship between the body, movement and place.
