Collection: Annette Messager

Annette Messager (born 1943, Berck-sur-Mer) works across installation, photography, embroidery and assemblage. Her practice takes the form of collections — of images, body fragments, stuffed animals, pinned words — organised into series that accumulate meaning through repetition and obsessive re-categorisation. Major works include Les Chimères, Les Trophées, Mes Vœux and Les Piques. Golden Lion, Venice Biennale, 2005. Work held at Centre Pompidou, MoMA and Tate Modern.

The printed matter gathered here documents the institutional life of a practice that has always been suspicious of institutions.
