Condition: Good. Rubbing and light surface marking to wrappers, with shallow creasing, small splits along the left edge and softened corners. Faint pencil or pressure marks to the front cover. Interior clean and complete.

By 2008, WILLARD BOEPPLE had been exhibiting with Broadbent for several years, following solo presentations at the London gallery in 2001, 2003 and 2005. This catalogue accompanied New Sculpture, held from 14 March to 26 April 2008; later that year, his Looms were shown at Lori Bookstein Fine Art in New York.

Boepple’s sculpture repeatedly begins with structures associated with use: shelves, ladders, rooms, looms, towers and trestles. These familiar forms are reduced and reorganised in wood, resin, aluminium and steel, retaining the proportions of furniture or architecture without settling into either category.

Reproduced here, Irish Corners (2007) places angled plates and irregular blocks within an open aluminium framework. The shelf remains recognisable, but storage has been replaced by balance, interruption and empty space. Throughout the catalogue, sculptures are isolated against broad white fields, transferring their open construction into the measured sequence of the page.

The publication is similarly reduced: the artist’s name centred on the front, the gallery address placed low on the reverse. Cover wear now interrupts that otherwise controlled surface, while the interior retains the clean spacing of its original exhibition use.
