Sachs’ Painting (Volume II) continued his investigation into painting through the lens of engineering, replication, and his long-standing DIY aesthetic. Rather than reproducing canonical works directly, Sachs meticulously reconstructed famous paintings as hand-made objects, complete with pencilled measurements, annotations, and workshop conventions that expose the mechanics of copying. The reproduced Portrait de Dora Maar becomes less a Picasso than a record of translation, where fabrication, labour, and authorship remain visible on the surface.
This invitation adopts the exhibition’s central image as its primary graphic, allowing the work to circulate beyond the gallery as a printed support. It functions simultaneously as announcement, reproduction, and portable trace of the exhibition. Like much of Sachs’ practice, the card quietly collapses distinctions between original and copy, artwork and instruction, image and object.
