Built from iPhone image files of wishing wells — indoors and outdoors, across locations and light conditions, 2023–2025. The first half reproduces these files as full-colour pages, each dated on the facing leaf. The second half presents four sets of video stills from phone clips: movement slowed into print, sequence replacing duration.

Matthew Peers’ practice is rooted in sculpture but extends into exhibition-making, publishing, display, and the social life of objects. His works resist a clean separation between artwork, support, furniture, architecture, image, and fragment. Materials appear handled, provisional, reflective — carrying traces of use rather than presenting themselves as resolved. Objects do not settle into fixed categories. They gather meaning through placement, contact, and circulation.

The publication follows this logic. It treats the printed page as another support structure: a surface where images accumulate, repeat, and are repositioned across time. It is not a catalogue after the fact, but part of the same material system as the works themselves. A sculpture can become an image. An image can become a document. A document can become an edition. An edition can return to the exhibition as an object in its own right.

Through The New Rare Editions, Peers’ practice is placed within a broader context of unstable authorship and object circulation — a site where the roles of artist, gallerist, publisher, collector, and archivist overlap. The publication does not fix the work into a single narrative. It preserves the provisional nature of the practice: objects always being reframed, reclassified, and put back into circulation.
