Condition: Very good. Unposted. Light handling, faint surface marks and minor corner and edge wear.

Gardiner photographed Cook at the height of Fatboy Slim’s late-1990s visibility, placing him alone beside a Los Angeles roadway rather than behind turntables or onstage. The original 495 × 394 mm C-type print entered the National Portrait Gallery in 2000 as a gift from the photographer. It remains Gardiner’s sole portrait in the collection.

The postcard reduces that portrait to a portable institutional record. On the reverse, the sitter becomes birth year, location, medium, dimensions, courtesy line and accession number: NPG x88630. A public identity formed through records, aliases and mass circulation is entered into the national collection, then placed back into circulation through the museum shop.
