Museum postcard reproducing Hans Bellmer’s La poupée, 1936, published by Éditions Mille for the Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris, c. 1983. Reference MP 8236-1-. Colour-printed; unused postal verso. 18 × 12 cm.

Bellmer began constructing and photographing his articulated dolls in the 1930s, turning the body into something divisible, reversible and endlessly recombinable. The photographs moved from the privately published Die Puppe of 1934 to the French La Poupée in 1936, Les Jeux de la Poupée in 1949 and, eventually, the museum. The Centre Pompidou acquired the corresponding 1949 print in 1983 and opened Hans Bellmer, photographe later that year — an exhibition that consolidated Bellmer’s standing specifically as a photographer. This postcard belongs to that final movement: the doll as institutional object.

Condition: Very good vintage condition, with light age toning and a few minor specks.
