Condition: Good. Overall toning and surface handling, with light creasing, softened corners and minor wear along the edges. Small marks and shallow impressions to the wrappers; complete and firmly held.

Regeneration brought Hannah Collins together with Mike and Doug Starn at a point when photography was increasingly being considered as both image and constructed object. Richard Rhodes placed Collins’s monumental photographic sequences beside the Starns’ three-dimensional assemblages, using the exhibition to examine the physical scale, support and material presence of photographic work.

The checklist records Collins’s Plural/West, Eggs for Bread, Revolving and the twenty-eight-panel Stonefree. The Starns were represented by works including Fear of Influence, Sun and four versions of Vaporum, made from toned ortho film combined with steel or silicon. One practice extends the photograph across walls and repeated panels; the other folds, clamps and layers it into a structure.

The exhibition arrived one year before Collins’s Turner Prize nomination and shortly after the Starns’ major 1990–91 travelling museum survey. In the same year, Mike and Doug Starn received the International Center of Photography’s Infinity Award for Fine Art Photography.

Eight pages reduce the exhibition to measurements, materials, reproductions and a sequence of names. The large sheet preserves something of the scale of the works while remaining an institutional object intended to be folded, handled and carried away.
