Dash Snow, Selected Works from 2001 to 2009. Nieves, Zurich, 2014. First edition; edition of 500. Softcover; 32 pages, 14 × 20 cm; black-and-white offset printing. Sealed in original shrinkwrap with original €6 retail sticker.
A small posthumous survey gathering work from across Dash Snow’s 2001–2009 practice. The front cover reduces Snow’s portrait to a coarse halftone; the reverse arranges dozens of photographs into a grid somewhere between contact sheet, archive and personal inventory.
Snow’s work developed through the immediate material of early-2000s downtown New York: Polaroids, newspapers, collage, graffiti, found images and the residue of everyday life. Photographs were as much records of movement, friendship and circumstance as finished images. Following his death in 2009, publications became one of the principal ways that this deliberately unstable body of work could be gathered, fixed and put back into circulation.
This copy remains unusually close to its original distribution state. The shrinkwrap has never been opened. The €6 shop label remains attached. The book has passed into the secondary market without ever fully leaving the condition in which it first appeared there.
That surviving price is particularly good. It records an earlier value rather than concealing it. €6 remains visible. £225 is its present placement. The object itself has not changed. Its context has.
A publication about photographs, fragments and accumulated evidence survives here as another piece of evidence: unopened, price-coded and held at the threshold between merchandise, publication and archive.
Condition: Sealed in original shrinkwrap. Light creasing and handling to the plastic from storage. Original retail barcode and €6 price label retained to rear. Contents unexamined.
Securely packed; tracked UK and international shipping available.
