Early English-language edition of Albert Cossery's first book, a collection of short stories set in Cairo. First published in French in the 1940s, Men God Forgot helped establish Cossery's world of idlers, workers, thieves, beggars, and anti-heroes. Henry Miller was an important early champion of the book, and his endorsement appears prominently on the back cover: “I reread it recently and still think it a gem. In a way, it’s a classic. I never see anything anywhere like it.” (January 19, 1963).

A small City Lights paperback carrying Egyptian-French fiction through a San Francisco countercultural publishing frame. Portrait, praise, translation, price, and paper all remain visible as period evidence. Translated from the French by H.E.; introduction by Dr. Harold Edwards, Faruk University, Alexandria, Egypt.
