Ariana Reines, Tiffany’s Poems. The Song Cave, 2015. Edited by Ben Estes and Alan Felsenthal. Softcover chapbook; 32 pages, 14 × 21.5 cm. Signed and numbered 35/100.
A small, deliberately spare poetry publication: pale blue wrappers, minimal typography, generous blank space and a sequence of poems organised around the figure and name of Tiffany.
The Song Cave issued Tiffany’s Poems in a signed and numbered edition of only 100 copies, originally sold as a set with Reines’s companion chapbook Ramayana. The publisher now records the edition as sold out. This example is Tiffany’s Poems only.
The book operates through address. A name becomes a title; dates, fragments, jokes, observations and direct speech are given the formal structure of a publication. Something that can feel private, provisional or specifically directed toward another person is fixed, numbered and released into circulation. That movement is especially good here. Private address → poem → chapbook → numbered object.
The sequence did not remain confined to this edition. Tiffany’s Poems later reappeared as a discrete section within Reines’s A Sand Book (2019). This chapbook therefore preserves the work in an earlier and substantially more restricted form: before incorporation into the larger book, when the sequence circulated independently through one hundred signed copies.
For The New Rare, that first state matters. The text may survive elsewhere. Its original placement does not. A poem becomes a sequence. A sequence becomes a limited edition. The limited edition becomes part of another book. This copy remains at the earlier point in the chain.
Condition: Good. Light handling, minor edge and corner wear and faint marks to the blue wrappers consistent with age. Signed and numbered 35/100.
