An anonymous postcard carrying an image associated with Jean-Michel Basquiat’s 1982 composition later titled Untitled III, from The Figure Portfolio. Two figures stand within an accumulated field of letters, diagrams, colour notations and repeated graphic marks. Language remains present without settling into explanation.

The card supplies no title, artist credit, publisher, institutional source or copyright statement. A recognisable image appears on one side; a generic postal structure occupies the other. Attribution has been removed from the support while recognition remains intact.

The composition subsequently entered authorised circulation through the estate-approved Figure Portfolio. This smaller object exists outside that documented edition. Its date, manufacturer and licensing status cannot presently be established.

What remains is a secondary image prepared for passage: reduced, coated and separated from its declared source. The postcard does not confirm its position. It records the point at which an artwork becomes merchandise, correspondence and anonymous printed matter.

Condition: very good. Minor handling and faint surface marks to the uncoated reverse. Unposted and unwritten.
