Collection: William Reynolds

William Reynolds (born 1932) is an American artist associated with the Southern California art scene of the 1960s. Working in shaped painting and geometric abstraction, Reynolds was part of the group of Los Angeles artists whose shared interest in precision fabrication, clean surfaces and optical effects was identified by critics including John Coplans as a distinctly West Coast development. He was included in 5 at Pace at Pace Gallery, New York, in 1965 alongside Larry Bell, Tony DeLap, Craig Kauffman and Edward Ruscha — one of the earliest significant presentations of this Los Angeles tendency to a New York audience. Reynolds subsequently moved away from the commercial art world, making him one of the less documented figures of the California scene despite his early prominence.
