Collection: Tony Arefin

Tony Arefin (1964–2000), born Abed Mohammed Arefin in Karachi and raised in London from 1974, was a British graphic designer whose practice through the late 1980s and 1990s constituted one of the most consequential and least credited contributions to the visual culture of contemporary British art. Working under the name Arefin & Arefin, he produced catalogues, invitation cards, announcements and institutional publications for the ICA, Chisenhale Gallery, Serpentine Gallery and Ikon Gallery, as well as printed matter for Damien Hirst’s Freeze (1988) and Modern Medicine (1990). He left London for New York in 1993, working at I.D., Bomb and Blind Spot before moving into advertising. The first comprehensive survey of his work, Arefin & Arefin: The Graphic Design of Tony Arefin, was published by Ikon Gallery, Birmingham, in 2012, designed by James Langdon.
