Ted Barron is an American photographer based in New York whose documentary practice has focused on subculture, sport and marginal urban spaces. His photo-essay “Brooklyn Smackdown,” published in Bald Ego no. 3 (c. 2004), documents independent lucha libre wrestling in grainy black-and-white photographs that record the physical and social texture of the events. Barron’s work has appeared in editorial and art contexts across New York’s downtown publishing scene.
