Collection: Simon Crump

Simon Crump (born 1960) is a British artist and writer whose early practice centred on large-scale photographic collage and assemblage, combining found imagery with sculptural interventions to construct dense, obsessive visual accumulations. Working in the late 1980s and early 1990s, he exhibited across the UK and internationally, receiving a commission from the Photographers' Gallery, London, and a shortlisting for the Fox Talbot Prize. He turned from visual art to fiction in the early 1990s, subsequently publishing My Elvis Blackout (Bloomsbury, 2000), a composite novel whose portrait of Elvis Presley as psychotic and sympathetic antihero drew on the same fixations that had animated his photographic work.
