Collection: Sam Durant
Sam Durant (b. 1961, Seattle) is an American artist whose sculptures, installations and texts examine the intersections of American history, political failure, popular culture and countercultural memory, often working with found materials and vernacular forms to expose contradictions within liberal democratic ideals. Associated with the critical tendencies of 1990s Los Angeles, his practice draws on sources ranging from the civil rights movement to rock music and architectural modernism. He has exhibited at the Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles, Documenta 12 in 2007, and the 2006 Whitney Biennial.
