Collection: Robert Cumming
Robert Cumming (1943–2023) was an American artist and photographer whose work combined deadpan humour, constructed scenarios and conceptual wit to examine the conventions of documentation, evidence and visual logic. Working primarily in photography and drawing from the late 1960s, he staged absurdist situations that appeared to record facts while systematically undermining the authority of photographic truth. He was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1980 and exhibited widely in the United States.
