Collection: Richard Kern

Artist books, publications and printed matter by or in collaboration with Richard Kern, the American photographer, filmmaker and musician whose work emerged from the New York underground of the 1980s. Kern’s photography moves between portraiture, fashion, transgression and the vernacular snapshot, often staging figures in relation to violence, sexuality and subcultural identity. His collaborations with artists including Rita Ackermann have extended his photographic material into painting, rephotography and publication, producing objects that occupy an unstable position between documentation and intervention.
