Collection: Phillip King

Phillip King (born 1934) is a British sculptor associated with the New Generation of artists who emerged from St Martin's School of Art in London in the 1960s, alongside Anthony Caro and William Tucker. His large-scale works in fibreglass, steel, and later bronze are characterised by bold geometric forms, vivid colour, and an expansive sense of physical presence that challenged prevailing ideas of sculptural space. King represented Britain at the Venice Biennale in 1968 and has had major retrospectives at institutions including the Hayward Gallery, London. He was Professor of Sculpture at the Royal College of Art from 1980 to 1990 and served as President of the Royal Academy of Arts from 1999 to 2004.
