Collection: McDermott & McGough
McDermott & McGough are the collaborative duo of David McDermott (born 1952) and Peter McGough (born 1958), American artists who have worked together since the early 1980s. Their practice centres on a deliberate refusal of the present: they have lived, dressed and worked according to the manners and technologies of earlier centuries, producing paintings, photographs and objects that adopt the styles, processes and iconography of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Concerned with time, memory, sexuality and the construction of historical identity, their work was included in Documenta 8 (1987) and has been shown at major institutions internationally, including the Kunst- und Ausstellungshalle der Bundesrepublik Deutschland, Bonn.
