Marcus Leatherdale (born 1952) is a Canadian-born photographer based in New York whose studio portraiture from the 1980s documented the downtown Manhattan underground — artists, performers, drag queens, dominatrices and subcultural figures — in a style that combined formal rigour with an unflinching engagement with sexuality, transgression and identity. Associated with Andy Warhol’s circle and the milieu of clubs including the Limelight and the Mudd Club, his black-and-white portraits constitute a significant document of the period.
