Keith Sonnier

Keith Sonnier (1941–2019) was an American artist whose practice centred on light, neon, video and transmission as sculptural media. A significant figure in the development of Process Art and post-minimalist sculpture in the late 1960s, Sonnier exhibited at the Leo Castelli Gallery and participated in major group exhibitions including “When Attitudes Become Form” (Kunsthalle Bern, 1969). His neon and mixed-media installations integrated electrical systems, fabric, latex and found materials into works that addressed the physical properties of light and signal. Sonnier represented the United States at the Venice Biennale in 1980 and received a retrospective at the Musée d’Art Moderne et d’Art Contemporain, Nice, in 2003.
