Collection: Justice Howard
Justice Howard (born c. 1960s, United States) is an American photographer whose work emerged from within the subcultures she documented — fetish, tattoo, erotic and body-modification communities. Working in severe black-and-white, her images stage the body as spectacle: confrontational, theatrical and formally precise. Associated with the San Francisco countercultural scene of the 1990s, Howard mounted her first solo exhibition, Black & White & Brutal, in Los Angeles in 1995. Her photographs circulated widely through specialist magazines, gallery exhibitions and printed multiples distributed by publishers including Soho Galleries, Valencia Street, San Francisco.
