Collection: Joe Zucker

Joe Zucker (born 1941) is an American painter based in New York whose work has consistently explored the materiality of painting itself — its surfaces, processes and supports — through unconventional techniques and materials including cotton balls soaked in acrylic, Rhoplex and graphite. Associated with the Pattern and Decoration movement and with a broader post-minimalist interest in craft and process, his paintings often address historical subjects — particularly the history of cotton and American labour — in formally inventive ways. Zucker has exhibited at the Holly Solomon Gallery, New York, and his work is held in major public collections including the Museum of Modern Art, New York.
